Donate Food Service Items to the Lakota Training and Leadership Institute
LTLI is starting an Institutional Food Services Training program and is in need of some institutional-quality equipment:

  • a three-compartment stainless steel sink
  • a box-style greasetrap (the type that fits into the plumbing)
  • an institutional propane range with both a convection oven and a standard oven, at least four stovetop eyes, and a flat grill top all built in (or something pretty close)
  • an institutional exhaust fan with hood and metal filters
  • two standard eight foot stainless steel prep tables with storage underneath
  • one table-mounting instructional mirror with swivel mount

Fund Higher Ground Espresso Machine
Higher Ground is a Christian coffee house on Pine Ridge Reservation, set to open in early May. Higher Ground will serve as a safe, Christian place to gather and fellowship. Funds are needed to purchase a new espresso machine.

Donate Treatment Facility Personal Hygiene Kits 
Preparation of personal “self-care” kits to be used by residents of an alcohol treatment halfway house on Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. A typical kit might include soap, shaving cream, disposable razors, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and a brush or comb. All items should be non-alcoholic. Donate Baby Kits for New Mothers
Preparation of baby kits for new mothers and newborn babies, for delivery by Cheyenne River Indian ministers to Indian mothers in hospitals. A typical kit would include wet wipes, pacifier, stuffed animal, mother pampering items, Bible (specifically requested), and other gifts consistent with baby care packages normally given to new mothers and newborns in hospitals.  Contact CBF of Missouri for more information.

Assistance with general needs identified by Tree of Life Ministries on Rosebud and Crow Creek Reservations. Donate to The Lakota Star Quilt Cooperative Project
Collection of quilting supplies to stock the future Star Quilt Cooperative Store.  (To date over 3500 yards of fabric has been collected, along with batting and other quilting supplies,  thread, needles,  cutting mats, rotary cutters, rotary blades, safety pins, quilters pins and quilting shears).  Learn more at Project Warm Embrace.

Fund The Gathering Thrift Store
Funds are needed for building “The Gathering” thrift store, community center, and quilt and craft cooperative in Bridger (on Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation).  The completed building will serve as an important space for meetings, ministries and enterprise.

Fund Sinte Gleska University Scholarships 
Scholarship money to students involved in the American Indian Business Leaders program at Rosebud Indian Reservation’s Sinte Gleska University . Many of these students are single mothers. Scholarships help defray tuition and book costs, assist with child care during study and class time, travel expenses for participation in business competitions around the country, and general overhead expenses for computers and other office/student equipment.

Fund Lakota Training and Leadership Institute Property Lease
LTLI is seeking 24 churches, businesses, individuals or Christian service organizations who will commit to providing $1,000 per year to cover the cost of its lease and to help with insurance coverage for liability and property damage.

Weeks of June 5, 12, and 19 and July 24th 2006 • Together for Hope/ Delta Dental South Dakota
Opportunities for dentists, dental assistants, and hygienists to serve on one of four Reservations in four of the 20 poorest counties in America. For more information about specifics, contact CBFMO.

Below are the 2005 service visits. Similar 2006 experiences are being planned.

Partner/Serve with First Baptist Church and United Methodist Church, Hamilton, MO
FBC Hamilton and Hamilton UMC (Hamilton, MO) installed water lines and fencing and did construction and repairs on a church building in Bridger, SD. The building will be used for church services as well as housing for subsequent project volunteers to the area.

Partner/Serve with Royal Lane Baptist Church, Dallas, TX
Royal Lane Baptist Church (Dallas, TX) staffed a children’s day camp in Lake View, SD.

Dental Ministry on Rosebud, Crow Creek Reservation
Working with Delta Dental of South Dakota, Ronald McDonald House and CBF, several dentists, dental assistants, and dental hygienists provided dental care to adults and children on Rosebud and Crow Creek Reservation.

Partner/Serve with Various Missouri and Kansas Churches
With Second Baptist Church Liberty, First Baptist Church Peculiar, First Baptist Church Montgomery City (Missouri), Leawood Baptist Church (Kansas), and Mid-American Indian Fellowships. The churches worked on the Cheyenne River Reservation, participating in general repair/maintenance work projects on local buildings/churches, offering children activity programs, and operating a multi-community rummage sale.

Construction/Remodeling Work with LTLI

Wanted: A church group or groups with construction/remodeling skills/experience, to assist the Lakota Training and Leadership Institute (a faith-based skills, vocation, technical training program) on Pine Ridge Reservation to renovate a kitchen area to be used for a commercial food services training program. Lakota Training and Leadership Institute seeks 200 volunteer labor hours for this project.

1.      Download the Volunteer Information form, fill it out and return it to the CBF Global Missions Office - Dallas by fax at (972) 389-9857 or by mail at 1000 E. Beltline Road, Suite 105, Carrollton, TX  75006.

2.      Upon confirmation of acceptance of application, continue dialog with Together for Hope representatives to determine specifics of your volunteer assignment.

3.      Upon acceptance of assignment, obtain secondary insurance for yourself and your group. This can be done online by following these instructions.
