Cape Girardeau Church Makes Blankets for Angel House in China Children in China will wake up in brighter, more comfortable beds this winter thanks to a gift from some children in Missouri. This summer, members of the First Cape Girardeau’s Vacation Bible School made blankets that were sent to the children at the Angel House in Gaungxi, China. A recent communication from Brenda Lisenby, one of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s field personnel in China, noted how the blankets brightened both the beds and the smiles of the children. Angel House is a rehabilitation, education, and early intervention project, started in June 2005 for children with cerebral palsy. Providing teachers to go into the homes of children ages birth to 6 years, the initiative identifies disabilities, educates parents on typical and atypical development and instructs parents on how to stimulate their child’s problem-solving, self-help, emotional, social, language and motor skills early on to help them achieve their fullest potential. "The parents are slowly beginning to realize how important they are to their children’s development," says Lisenby. "In general, the parents want to hand over their child to the experts to ‘cure.’ But they are learning how to be actively and effectively engaged in their children’s development. This is a major milestone for parents." Lisenby also shared news about answered prayers in China, especially with the leadership transition at Guangxi Christian Council. Lisenby reports the leader of the Guangxi Christian Council and the leader of the Nanning Christian Council will be an ordained ministerial husband and wife team. "They are senior pastors and the husband is the Director of the Lay Training School. Between the two of them, they have enough hats and responsibilities for ten people," reports Lisenby. "Pray for this couple to keep a balanced life, with work and family and personal spiritual needs." Prayers have also been answered for several students who have decided to be baptized. Lisenby was able to share in their baptism celebrations. "I was deeply impressed with the testimonies about the work of God in their lives that they presented before their baptism," she said.
