Next Kenya Trip Slated for October 2008

As part of CBF of Missouri’s ongoing partnership in Kenya, a return trip to Africa is being planned for October 2008. Specific dates will be determined in coordination with CBF field personnel Sam and Melody Harrell and their Africa Exchange Change for Children program. Cost is projected to be $3000 per person, which includes air, lodging, meals, visa, and emergency medical insurance.

The ideal project trip will have 10-12 skilled participants from an array of churches partnering with the CBF of Missouri Ngerenya ICDC Project.

• 2 doctors/nurses – provide basic health screenings

• 2-3 construction/handymen – working with locals construct a fence around the outdoor kitchen, playground, or tree nursery

• 2-3 crafts/recreation — provide recreation, crafts and stories with children

• 2-3 teachers – work with the Ngerenya teachers to learn basic Montessori ideas

• 2-3 pastors—preach on Sunday morning in Ngerenya #1, Calvary Baptist Church, and others

Kutana
Participants will have a KUTANA experience in Kenya that includes significant personal interaction at the Ngerenya Integrated Child Development Center project site. KUTANA is a Swahili word which has several meanings including "to meet, encounter, or come upon." It carries with it a reciprocal nature where both parties are affected.

This kind of cross-cultural education, mission immersion and other exchanges results in:

• greater awareness of the African context

• greater knowledge of self and others in light of the richness and diversity of Kenyan culture and environment

• dedication to appropriately addressing gross inequities that occur as a result of wide spread poverty.

• the beginning of a transformative journey as a result of intentional exposure and reflection.
