Foundation Grant Underwrites Kate Campbell Concert CBF of Missouri has received a $5000 grant from the Missouri Baptist Foundation to underwrite a Kate Campbell benefit concert to be held at the CBF of Missouri General Assembly on Friday, April 27 at First Baptist Lee’s Summit. All proceeds from the benefit concert will go to the KidsHeart Africa initiative. "The Foundation is grateful for donors who have made funding possible for such worthy projects. Partnership with KidsHeart Africa, supported already by Foundation clients, is a great initiative in keeping with the mission and ministry purpose that guides such grants," said James R. Smith, Foundation president. "I expect Missouri Baptists to continue an overwhelming and generous response to KidsHeart Africa as they become increasingly aware of the opportunity the KidsHeart partnership brings to assist families and make a difference in the lives of children in great need." Campbell, a Baptist preacher’s daughter from Mississippi, has been featured on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Live From Mountain Stage. An interview with Kate (along with Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Shawn Colvin, Nanci Griffith and others) also appeared in the book Solo: Women Singer- Songwriters In Their Own Words. She has been a featured performer at several CBF events and has performed in a number of area churches. The mission of the Missouri Baptist Foundation is to strengthen the mission and ministry efforts of Missouri Baptists by promoting Christian stewardship, assisting with planning and implementation of charitable gift arrangements and managing assets entrusted to the Foundation to provide perpetual support. The Foundation was started in 1946 with about $80,000 in assets. Today the Foundation assets exceed $154 million, represent more than 1000 accounts and will distribute nearly $8 million dollars in the current year to Missouri Baptist causes and other causes both in the state and around the world. The Friday night concert will kick off the CBF of Missouri KidsHeart Africa initiative for 2007. KidsHeart Africa is a three year initiative by CBF of Missouri to raise $90,000 to build and staff an Integrated Child Development Center (CDC) in Kenya. Through the work of CBF missionaries Sam and Melody Harrell, the CDC will become an important community resource for early childhood education and extended family support, particular for children who have lost one or both parents to the AIDS epidemic. Each CDC will serve up to 400 AIDS orphans and their families. The KidsHeart initiative is a partnership among the All-Africa Baptist Union, Buckner Benevolent Ministries, and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and CBF of Missouri. |
