Vestal Meets with Advisory Group in Missouri and CBF Midwest in Iowa Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Coordinator Daniel Vestal met with CBF of Missouri members on Friday October 6 at the first-ever CBF of Missouri Advisory Group meeting. About 40 people from around the state met at First Baptist Church in Jefferson City to hear Vestal speak, ask questions and hear more about what the Fellowship is doing. "CBF people in Missouri have so much positive energy and so many good ideas," shares CBF of Missouri Coordinator Harold Phillips. "It was really great to see so many familiar faces and to get a chance to interact with each other." Vestal talked to the group about the future of CBF around the world and in Missouri. He noted how his book, It’s Time, and the accompanying materials available through CBF have been a success in helping churches be more missional. Vestal also told the group about CBF’s new Global Missions coordinator, Rob Nash. "He is going to rock our boat," Vestal beamed. Partnerships were a key part of the group’s discussion. Vestal noted the close partnership between CBF and CBF of Missouri, creating a seamless experience for churches and individuals that relate to the Fellowship. Daniel told the group about CBF’s involvement in Christian Churches Together, a new ecumenical group holding an inaugural meeting in Los Angeles in February. Central Baptist Theological Seminary’s role as a key partner with CBF was also noted by Vestal and several members in attendance. CBTS is one of 13 theological education institutions currently partnering with CBF. Participants spent the afternoon in small groups, giving feedback about CBF and CBF of Missouri initiatives. One group, led by Jeff Langford, discussed the emerge lay leadership development process. Another group, led by Vestal, discussed CBF’s new missions education materials and ways it could be utilized in churches. The group led by Brian Ford discussed summer intern programs being developed by William Jewell College, CBF of Missouri and various churches. Robin Sandbothe led another group in discussion about Fellowship Groups being planned throughout the state. Vestal spent the day on Saturday in Des Moines Iowa for the creation of a new venture – CBF in the Midwest. Encompassing the states of Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, this new group met at Ashworth Road Baptist Church. Pastor Tim Deatrick said his church has wanted to become more significant in the Fellowship. Deatrick’s goals for the day were to inform, inspire and connect with pastors and other CBF people in the five-state region. A group of almost 100 heard Ray and Kathleen Kesner share about Together for Hope in South Dakota, Pastor Tim Deatrick explained how a CBF in the Midwest group might function, and Daniel Vestal provided a presentation called CBF 101. The day’s event closed with a time of worship and communion. |
