William Jewell Student Serves in DC through CBF's Student.Go

When told his majors in Theater and Philosophy could tend to lead to a meaningful but impoverished life, William Jewell College student Phillp Meece replies, "That sounds like a great way to live to me."

Meece put his words into action this summer through CBF’s Student.Go program, which offers undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to serve alongside CBF Global Missions field personnel and ministry partners in locations around the world.

Meece served at Camp Fraser in the Washington D.C. area as camp counselor for inner city children ages 7-13. Duties included curriculum development and devotional leadership as well as recreation, cooking and cleaning. "There are ministries that simply would not happen if these students were not there," said Amy Derrick, the Fellowship’s associate coordinator for Global Service Corps and Student Missions.

Student.Go provides a $1,000 stipend, room and board, local transportation at the ministry site, travel to orientation and secondary insurance. Students from Missouri receive an additional $1,000 stipend, provided through the Show Me State Missions offering.

"It was a very good experience," says Meece. "It made me a stronger, better person."
