From the Coordinator What do a Porch, a Rock, and a Pit have in common? Combined they make for an uplifting month of stories for churches like ours. The Porch—Leaders interested in the future of collegiate ministry met in Atlanta earlier this month. Bruce Gentry and Mike Shupert from Cape Girardeau, Leslie Limbaugh from St. Louis, and I were the Missourians among a group of 90. Johnny Pierce, editor of Baptists Today, challenged CBF to "build a porch" where those interested in collegiate ministry can gather to share ideas, discern the Spirit, and plan. The Rock—Another group from four states gathered in Little Rock to "discover new directions for the traditional church." Doyle Sager from Jefferson City represented the Missouri church spotlighted. Doyle described how Natural Church Development has been a tremendous resource. Warren Hoffman and Daniel Johnson from St. Louis churches, and Bob Perry and Marilyn Nelson from Springfield and I were part of that experience. The Pit – Last Saturday, Gwen and I drove to Hamilton where pastor Kevin Ritter hosts his church and ministry partners to an annual pig roast (worth the drive, believe me!). This rural church loves their pastor and have provided Kevin with a five-week sabbatical this summer provided through CBF and the Lilly Foundation. The Fellowship is the common link for each of these stories. How can the Fellowship be a resource to you and your church? |
