Regeneration Collegiate Christian Ministries Impacts Students, Campus With classes at Southeast Missouri State Univerity (SEMO) in Cape Girardeau concluding, one might expect Yvonne Dennis to be thinking about summer vacation. But Dennis, pastor of Regeneration Collegiate Christian Ministries (RCCM), is too busy serving students to take a break. Summer school will start soon and her students will need a place to serve and worship over the summer. SoYvonne will be at work, helping to reach the SEMO campus for Christ. Yvonne Dennis has been leading RCCM for almost four years. During that time, the group has grown tremendously, adding 5 more ministries this year alone. With a total of 22 ministries and nearly 300 students, RCCM is an important presence on the SEMO campus. Ministries include: Chosen Instruments drama ministry, Ec7 Radical Dance ministry, Broken Vessels mime ministry, Intercessory Prayer ministry, men’s and women’s ministries, Hip-Hop ministry, Anointed Praise dancers, Regeneration Gospel Choir, and many more Through its annual budget, CBF of Missouri lends financial support to Yvonne and her work with RCCM. "Yvonne does not make a big deal about herself. Yet the results are astounding," said CBF of Missouri coordinator Harold Phillips. "For CBF of Missouri to have a role in supporting Yvonne as pastor of this group is just one small way we are helping to be the presence of Christ in Missouri." RCCM has even become a recruiting tool for the University. African American students come to SEMO from urban areas like Kansas City and St. Louis but also from rural areas in southeast Missouri. SEMO’s Dean of Students and Admissions officers work closely with Yvonne because of the important place RCCM holds in the African American community on campus. In fact, RCCM has been a factor in students transferring to SEMO from other universities. "Wouldn’t it be great if someone called my church (or yours) as a way to entice a new person or family to move to our community?," notes Phillips. "Yvonne has acquired that level of success." Yvonne is pleased with the growth of RCCM, especially with the spiritual and leadership development of the students, notably the leadership council which helps guide the ministry. As RCCM has grown more students have matured and are able lead, not just participate. More information about RCCM is available at www6.semo.edu/rccm/. |
